New York, NY (February 20, 20121). High Line Open Studios will kick-off its 2012 season in conjunction with The Armory Show Arts Week 2012. The artists of the High Line Open studios, based in the heart of the West Chelsea arts District, will open their doors to the public on Saturday March 10th, from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.
The free self guided tour beginning at the West Chelsea Arts Building, 508-526 West 26th Street, between 10th and 11th avenues.
High Line Open Studios was created by artists for artists to raise awareness of the multitude of studios scattered among the galleries of Chelsea. Since its inception in 2007, this annual event has grown from a single building on 26th Street to include studios that span the entire length of the High Line from 14th Street north to West 30th Street.
The goal of High Line Open Studios is two fold: to allow local emerging and established artists the opportunity to open their studio doors to show their artwork in a democratic forum; and to provide the public with the opportunity to enjoy art at its origin.
Considered by some as the art center of the world, visitors are given the rare opportunity to gain access to a multitude of artists, styles, and mediums and see first hand the creative spaces generally only open by appointment. Visitors can preview participating artists via the web to create a self-guided art tour while enjoying the unique urban architecture of the High Line Park. This open format encourages dialogue between artists and enthusiasts allowing visitors to gain first hand knowledge about the creative process. Collectors have the ability to purchase works directly from the artists’ studio inventory, giving them the opportunity to be the first to discover new talent before it makes its way to the gallery walls.
